Arizona's "My Picture-Perfect Career" Photo Contest Sparks Summer Dreams for Students

This summer, Arizona State Treasurer Kimberly Yee, in partnership with AZ529, Arizona's official Education Savings Plan, is thrilled to announce the return of the "My Picture-Perfect Career" Photo Contest. Designed to inspire the future aspirations of students from Kindergarten through 12th grade, the contest offers a creative way for Arizona's youth to envision their future careers during the summer break.

As schools let out and the summer season begins, families across Arizona are encouraged to engage in meaningful discussions with their children about career aspirations. The contest provides a fun and engaging way to explore these potential interests, especially when visiting local educational resources such as libraries, museums, and various hands-on learning sites throughout the state.

Contest Details:
Participants are asked to snap a creative photo that showcases them in their dream job. Whether it's a selfie, a group shot with friends and family, or a more artistic take, the key is for the photo to represent the participant's vision of their future profession. A total of ten winners will be selected from across Arizona's 15 counties, including students from district, charter, private, tribal schools, and homeschools. Each winner will receive $529 to open or supplement an existing AZ529 Education Savings Plan account.

The $5,290 total prize pool aims to aid students in saving for various educational pursuits beyond high school, whether it's college, community college, vocational training, trade school, or other educational pathways.

Important Dates:
Entries can be submitted starting Monday, May 6, through the contest's official page at AZ529's Photo Contest Page. The deadline for submissions is Sunday, June 9, at 11:59 p.m. MST. Participants are reminded that by entering the contest, they consent to having the submitted photos potentially displayed publicly, including on AZ529's website and social media channels.

Treasurer Yee expressed enthusiasm about the educational initiative, stating, "We are excited to bring back this student photo contest for a second time to encourage families across the state to engage in these important conversations about education and savings throughout the summer. It's never too early or too late to start planning for a child's future education."

Why Participate?
An AZ529 Education Savings Plan offers a tax-free way to set aside money for educational expenses. Arizona residents enjoy a dollar-for-dollar state tax deduction for contributions up to $2,000 or $4,000 per beneficiary, depending on filing status. The funds, which accrue over time, remain tax-free when used for a broad range of educational costs. Starting this year, any unused funds in the 529 plan can be rolled over into a Roth IRA, offering even more flexibility and tax advantages.
