Heroic Efforts by Rural Metro Firefighters Save Home from Devastating Blaze in San Tan Valley

On June 21, 2024, the Rural Metro Fire Department responded to a significant house fire in San Tan Valley, following reports from the Pinal County Sheriff's Office (PCSO) of a fully involved house fire with explosions in the garage.

Engine 841 (E841) arrived first on the scene and found the garage completely engulfed in flames. The garage contained a car, a motorcycle, and a heavy fuel load, with two additional cars parked in the driveway. E841 initiated a transitional attack on the fire.

Engine 844 (E844) arrived shortly after and continued to attack the fire from the exterior, while E841 and Engine 842 (E842) entered the home to conduct search and rescue operations and fight the fire from the inside. The teams cleared the home and found that the fire had spread to the attic, prompting an interior attack to control the flames.

Engine 843 (E843) and Utility 859 (U859) also responded to the scene to support the firefighting efforts. Firefighters worked to establish fire control and remained on site for salvage and overhaul operations. Their efforts successfully contained the fire to the garage and attic, though the rest of the house suffered smoke and water damage.

No injuries were reported among firefighters, emergency medical services (EMS) personnel, or the occupants of the home. Unfortunately, a family cat was lost in the fire. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

The incident highlights the coordinated efforts of the Rural Metro Fire Department in managing and containing house fires to prevent further damage and ensure the safety of the community.
